Supernova® Perennials - 2009-2010

Our Supernova® Perennial program is designed to give the grower saleable gallons in a scheduled number of weeks. Most perennial growers start their plants in the fall and hold them over in cold frames. Our program allows you to finish your material along with all your other annuals, which is great for growers who have limited space.

You don't have to be an expert or perennial guru to have success with this program. We've taken the guesswork out of selected plants that are easy to grow, flower readily and are popular with retail customers. Several of the plants are vernalized for uniform flowering and growth and require little to not growth regulators.

Lines will come with Proven Selections® or Proven Winners® Perennial tags allowing these to be part of the fantastic marketing program offered by Proven Winners®.

Coreopsis - 'Early Sunrise'

Height:20-24" Zone: 3-10 (-40 to -30) Environment: Sun to Part Shade About: Beautiful orange-yellow daisy-like flowers appear from late spring to mid-summer.

Echinacea - 'Magnus'

Height:24-48" Zone:3-10 (-40 to -30) Environment: Full Sun About: This 1998 Perennial Plant of the Year, prides itself as a favorite among perennial gardeners for its upright stems and pink daisy like blooms. Excellent cut flowers.

Grass / Calamagrostis - 'Avalanche'

Height: 48 " Zone:4-7 (-30 to -20) Environment:Full to Part Sun About: If you like Karl Foerster and Overdam, you will love Avalanche! Similar in habit, Avalanche has a band of white down the center of each blade with small green margins. A tall grass excellent in creating natural borders in the landscape.

Grass / Calamagrostis - 'Karl Foerster'

Height: 72" Zone:5-11 (-20 to -10) Environment:Full to Part Sun About: This 2001 Perennial Plant of the year, is one of the first grasses to come out of winter dormancy. Perfect for a 1.0 GL program or for height in upright containers. Survives most winters without protection. Consumers love the horizontal texture it provides for the landscape along with the Golden foliage during late summer months.

Grass / Calamagrostis - 'Overdam'

Height:48-60" Zone:5-11 (-20 to -10) Environment: Full to Part Sun About: White and green variegated foliage forms an arching habit. An excellent cool season grass, adding both vertical height and an unique texture to either upright containers or the landscape. This is one you will enjoy, season after season.

Heliopsis - 'Tuscan Sun'

Height:6-10" Zone: 5-11 (-20 to -10) Environment: Full Sun About: This dwarf plant has a great branching habit. Flowers all summer long like an annual but is hardy to zone 5. I grew this in my yard this past summer (2006) and can say I was very pleased with the continuous color and how easy this one was to care for. Very little to almost know maintenance.

Heuchera - 'Dolce® Creme Brulee'

Height:8-16" (Flowers to 16") Zone: 5-11 (-20 to -10) Environment: Sun to Shade About: The Dolce® series finishes in five to six weeks and are cold hardy and very vigorous. The soft, creamy, vanilla-colored foliage of this plant takes on brown sugar highlights. The interesting mix of foliage colors makes this plant a consumer favorite.

Heuchera - 'Dolce® Key Lime Pie'

Height:8-16" (Flowers to 16") Zone: 5-11 (-20 to -10) Environment: Sun to Shade About: The beautiful lime green foliage that intensifies with the onset of cool temperatures is everything you need to fall in love with this plant.

Heuchera - 'Dolce® Licorice'

Height: 8-16" (Flowers to 16") Zone: 5-11 (-20 to -10) Environment: Sun to Shade About: Almost black, tropical looking foliage, dusted with silver is the best way to describe the true foliage color. I've heard many comments that you can not truly appreciate this one from a photo as it is near impossible to capture. Extreme cold hardiness make this a favorite for fall color. Notice the incredible contrast against the lime colors of Goldilocks Lysimachia.

Heuchera - 'Dolce® Mocha Mint'

Height: 8-16" (Flowers to 16") Zone: 5-11 (-20 to -10) Environment: Sun to Shade About: Mocha Mint's smaller leaf size intensifies the effect of silver foliage heavily veined in dark green. In mid to late summer, this exciting plant produces and abundance of rosy-pink flowers. If you are looking for a heuchera with flower power, this would be my top choice of all these varieties.

Heuchera - 'Dolce® Peach Melba'

Height: 8-16" (Flowers to 16") Zone: 5-11 Environment: Sun to Shade About: The foliage of this fast-growing and vigorous Peach Melba is peachy apricot on top with deep, dusty pink on the reverse. This is simply another unique color of foliage that you just want to look at and enjoy - a must that consumers will love.

Hosta - 'Francee'

Height: 21" (50" Spread) Zone: 3-9 (-40 to -30) Environment: Part to Full Shade About: Medium-Large mound of white margined foliage with medium lavender flowers. Looks outstanding no matter what the weather. Tolerates up to 1/2 sun. A good ground cover.

Lamiastrum - 'Hermann's Pride'

Height: 6" Zone: 4-11 (-30 to -20) Environment: Full to Part Sun About: A very popular ground cover. Coming from a vernalized Supernova® will result in a more upright habit and a plant that will be loaded with little yellow flowers along the stem. The silver color is more intense when grown from a Supernova® over a standard plug. A great accent plant for combinations. Long lasting.

Rudbeckia - 'Goldsturm'

Height: 24-36" Zone: 4-10 (-30 to -20) Environment: Full to Part Shade About: Bright golden yellow flowers that are long blooming and low maintenance. Compact habit.

Salvia - 'May Night'

Height: 10-18" Zone: 5-11 Environment: Full to Part Sun About: This 1997 Perennial Plant of the Year provides an awesome display of color with a compact growth habit.
