Plant Spacing Calculators

Plant on Larger Centers

PROVEN WINNERS® plants can be planted on larger centers, which means you will need fewer plants and can save on labor costs. Many varieties need no deadheading and require very little maintenance.

Use these charts to calculate accurate totals for planting beds.

Calculate Square Feet of Planting Bed

Squares and Rectangles:   Area = length x width
Circles:   Area = 3.14 x radius squared
Example:   A 10-foot circle has a radius of 5 feet
(5 feet squared is 25). Area = 25 x 3.14 = 78.5 sq. ft.

Use this table to calculate an accurate total needed for planting beds.
Number of Plants = Square foot x Spacing multiplier
Example: 200 sq. ft. bed planting on 15” centers = 200 x 0.65 = 128 plants
